Size Guide Full Noise is no ordinary Yak 3, number 6 of 10 new production Yaks was initially based in the United States but was involved in a take-off accident at Reno in 1999.
The damaged aircraft was eventually purchased by New Zealander Graeme Frew and a full overhaul of the airframe, engine and all systems was carried out by Omaka based JEM Aviation. During the rebuild, they also set about the complicated task of installing a second seat so that it was possible to share the joy and thrill of riding in one of the best fighters of WW II. In 2017 a band of Kiwis, led by Graeme, teamed together and took the aeroplane to the National Championship Air Races in Reno Nevada. The rookie team went from the back of the bronze race on Thursday, to a start in the Gold final on Sunday. The race number 35 that features so boldly on the aircraft and on the hoodie was none other than that of motorcycle legend Burt Munro. Surely the spirit of Munro was strong with this team.
